MERIEL YOUNGER

Maternity Reflexology:

"I first visited Meriel as I had been trying to conceive my first baby for some 22 months but to no avail. The first session was very relaxed, she took a detailed history and asked if there was anything in particular that I would like her to concentrate on. I was quite apprehensive to start with but Meriel was quick to put me at ease. Once the reflexology itself started I couldn't believe how nice and relaxing it was! I went home feeling the most relaxed I'd been in years!! Lo and behold, 3 weeks later and I've just found out that I'm pregnant!! I have no doubt that the session with Meriel had something to do with me conceiving. I'll certainly be visiting her later in the pregnancy!!"

"I had reflexology by Meriel Younger done during months 4-7 (before I returned to Canada) of my pregnancy and it was such a great way for me to relax as well as giving me an emotional and physical energy boost. I had the treatment done every week pretty much and found it extremely beneficial as I was going through a very stressful time in my life. In fact, it was during one of Meriel's treatments that I first felt my baby kick! I cannot say enough about the benefits of reflexology and the comfort and ease of having the treatment done, as you can get it right up until your baby is born. I can also say tht Meriel is one of the best Reflexologists I have ever been to, and have not been able to find someone as good yet!"
Neena - now in Canada.

"Meriel Younger has been my Reflexologist for over a year now. I started going to her for reflexology to try to help me conceive as I had been having problems. I then found out I was pregnant and went to her once a month for the first seven months and then every fortnight until I went weekly right at the end. I found the treatments totally beneficial and it certainly helped my morning sickness during the first few months. She also helped balance my hormones and I just generally found the sessions so relaxing and a total enjoyment." A, Edinburgh.

"I visited Meriel for ante-natal reflexology during the latter stages of pregnancy and would thoroughly recommend her treatment for mothers to be. I am convinced that her "priming" techniques helped my baby and my body gear up for labour, which occurred only 3 days after the due date with no need for medical intervention. Not only did I have a problem-free (and relatively pain free) labour, but I also felt wonderfully relaxed in the run up to child-birth which undoubtedly had benefits for pregnancy, labour and the first somewhat stressful weeks of mother-hood. It was also great for sorting out my swollen feet!!" F in Edinburgh

“I have been attending prenatal reflexology sessions for the past few months and it's pure bliss - a total relaxation for mind, body and feet! I really look forward to my sessions and hope to continue with regular reflexology appointments after the baby is born.” L in Edinburgh

“I had Reflexology with Meriel when I was pregnant, and as well as other aches and pains, Meriel was able to relieve the lower back pain so common during pregnancy. AND sitting comfortably for an hour chatting to Meriel while she worked her magic was a great escape from moving house and a hectic work schedule - I always felt extremely relaxed afterwards, and then energised the next day. I would recommend the treatment to anyone - pregnant or not.” S in Edinburgh

“I attended Meriel for 'me' time during my pregnancy. I had regular reflexology sessions throughout which always helped ease my pregnancy niggles of sluggish digestion and back pain. At the end of a session I was always left with a real sense of well-being which could only be good for the baby. I also tried some pregnancy massage with Meriel which also resulted in deep relaxation, working away any tensions that had developed in places I never thought it could e.g. hips, pelvis. Meriel is very intuitive and helpful, she would ensure she worked on any areas that were problematic and also helped with great advice and contacts in line with my pregnancy. I would not hesitate to recommend Meriel’s healing touch.” K in Edinburgh

“I had one appointment with Meriel for maternity reflexology, specifically for infertility. It was the most relaxing hour I've had in a long time, and the results.....a baby due in October!! I can't recommend Meriel enough!!!” A in Edinburgh

“I started seeing Meriel when I found treatment for my back pain through an osteopath wasn't having much success. I found the sessions with Meriel much more relaxing and liked the fact that I could mix different types of treatment (such as reflexology or massage) depending on what symptoms I was having that week. I would highly recommend Meriel to anyone looking for alternative treatment for many of the different changes your body goes through during pregnancy!”K in Edinburgh

Reflexology:

"I have been to a number of reflexoligists and without doubt Meriel is the best, by far. Highly recommended." A in London

"My doctor recommended reflexology to me, after I had suffered for months with insomnia. I had tried various other remedies, from hot baths to aroma therapy oils to sleeping tablets, but with no luck. I was a bit dubious about reflexology in the beginning. I couldn't see that I would feel any benefit from having my feet rubbed, and it all seemed a bit hocus-pocus to me. However, I was desperate so I made an appointment. I spoke briefly with Meriel about my insomnia, and within minutes I was on the table, shoes off and still feeling a bit dubious. That feeling disappeared soon after as, for the first time in months, I felt myself actually relax. It was wonderful. Within about 20 minutes I was asleep.

"I don't understand the science behind relfexology, but I definitely believe it to be beneficial. Not only has it helped no end with my lack of sleep, but it allows me to relax and drift away, and gives me a feeling of calmness afterwards. Reflexology has definitely helped me regain a normal sleep pattern, and has relieved a lot of the everyday stress and anxiety that I didn't realise I was carrying around. I feel lighter, happier and more balanced.

"I have, and will continue to recommend Meriel to anyone who wants to relax and unwind." K. in Edinburgh.

“Meriel has been giving me Reflexology for six months now and it has been fantastic. I look forward to every session and if I could I would go every day! Reflexology has made a huge impact on my health and well being. I have seen real results and will be forever grateful.” A in Edinburgh

"My goal was to really relax and after only a couple of sessions with Meriel I felt a totally chilled mood wash over me which lasted well after the treatment. In my case I am having a course of reflexology but it is not only the actual treatment that is having such a positive effect it is Meriel's style that creates such a wonderful result. I can't recommend her enough!" P in Edinburgh

“I have been going to see Meriel for reflexology for the past 3 years. She has always found out any slight niggling problems that I may of had in my body, just by touching my feet. She has then worked on these specific areas pressure points and others, helping me feel altogether better and healthier. I look forward to my visits to headandfoot and just wish that I could go more often.” L in Edinburgh

"I was very sceptical of the efficiency of this treatment but I was absolutely astounded with the accuracy on the reflection of physical problems on my feet, it is great and very efficient". M in Edinburgh

“I have benefited noticeably from reflexology sessions that I have had from Meriel since the start of December last year. Meriel was recommended to me by another client of hers and I was wholly convinced after my first treatment – the results were remarkable. I have a very high degree of confidence in Meriel and would recommend her unreservedly.” B in Edinburgh

“I see Meriel regularly for reflexology, and I would have no hesitation in recommending her to anyone looking for a truly gifted natural healer.” L in Edinburgh

“I came to Meriel for Reflexology seeking help with stress levels and fertlility issues. Meriel has helped me so much. Her reflexolgy treatments help me to relax and help my body to feel better (and the sessions help my mind too). I also have back and shoulder massage (which has made so much difference to me) and hopi ear candles. Meriel has a fabulous manner and an ability to tailor the chosen treatment especially for me. It's the best thing to find a really great therapist who is technically excellent, professional, understanding, and caring all in one. Thanks M.” N in Edinburgh

"I have had both reflexology and general back massage treatments with Meriel and both were fantastic. Life is so hectic and I have found Meriel is really able to ease the tensions. She is also such a positive person you can't help but smile after your treatment!" P in Edinburgh

“I started having reflexology with Meriel whilst I was quite ill with anxiety and depression. She has a very relaxing approach and I found the hour spent in her chair a marvellously calm and uplifting one away from the pressures I was under at the time. Now that I am recovered I am still continuing my sessions with Meriel as I value the oasis of that hour of calm in an otherwise hectic life. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.”

"I was going through a very difficult time when I met Meriel as I had just had a miscarriage and I wanted to get ready for a round of IVF to take place a couple of months later...through her patience, listening and her great knowledge of reflexology, I was able to calm down and get back into a good emotional state...I also felt physically better and with more energy. She also did treatments whilst I was going through IVF and that helped get some stress off my mind...I greatly recommend going to treatments with Meriel as she is patient and knowledgeable about the human body and overall, she really does care." M in Edinburgh

“I had reflexology with Meriel on a fortnightly basis for the year that I lived in Edinburgh. During this time I was suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and found that reflexology helped enormously with my energy levels.
I have visited a number of reflexologist in the time I have been ill and found Meriel to be by far the best, not just with her reflexology technique but also with her caring approach (I found talking to Meriel therapeutic
too).
Each session I experienced deep relaxation. Following the session I felt like I was floating around. This would be followed by a deep sleep and increased energy levels in the days following. I saw an ongoing improvement in my health during this time.
I would give my highest recommendation to anyone with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or for anyone experiencing stress to book an appointment with Meriel. She is on the top of my list of things I miss about Edinburgh!”

“I’d recommend everyone in the city took a break from the crazy credit crunching markets and entered the oasis of calm provided by an hour’s reflexology – and less of the ‘don’t have the time’.” A in Edinburgh

“I go to Meriel for reflexology mainly for relaxation. Having never used this before I am now a total fan. It's some time to relax and without consciously realising your brain totally shuts itself down and the effects last well after the session is finished! Meriel is informative and will talk you through what she is seeing from the sessions and give you tips on how to resolve any problem areas.” M in Edinburgh

Reflexology with Meriel is not only a very relaxing experience but it is also fascinating to hear about the connection between the feet and other organs. Meriel is an extremely knowledgeable and experienced therapist with the most lovely manner that immediately puts you at ease. R in Edinburgh

I have been seeing Meriel regularly now for about a year for reflexology and massage. Meriel's warm, friendly manner is immediately relaxing and she is extremely knowledgeable and professional. The treatments have helped me stay positive, and relaxed throughout IVF treatment, which we have just found out has been succesful! I have recommended Meriel to friends, and we all agree - the massages are the best in town! At my suggestion my husband also visited Meriel for massage to help reduce stress and help neck / shoulder pain. He now goes regularly and says the deep tissue massages from Meriel always work wonders on his aches and pains, but also helps him relax at the end of a stressful day.

Thanks Meriel! S in Edinburgh

“When I first went for a massage with Meriel I was extremely nervous as I was under going treatment on my spin with a chiropractor and the treatment was very painful. From the moment I met Meriel she made me feel at ease instantly, I relaxed into the massage straight away and the whole experience from start to finish was fantastic. Having the massage actually went hand in hand with the chiropractor. The treatment was no longer as painful as Meriel had relaxed all my muscles with her magic touch. Amazing experience.”

“I've been having regular massage sessions with Meriel for several months now, to combat stress build up in my neck, shoulders and back. I had tried several therapists before finding her and can honestly say that hers are the best massages I have ever had. Meriel once told me that she thinks with her hands, and I think that's a very good description of the way that she works. She has a wealth of techniques literally at her fingertips, and continually explores new ones. The sessions remove all the tension of the working weeks and leave me feeling ready for anything.” T in Edinburgh

“An hour spent with Meriel leaves me feeling relaxed and refreshed.” G in Edinburgh

“I was strongly advised by my physio to have regular massage to assist the healing of an injury. NO WAY!! Was my initial response, I was gradually talked round and the rest is history as I am a total convert. From my first appointment with Meriel I knew i was on to a winner. Meriel is quite simply great. Putting me at my ease and giving a massage appropriate to the history she took my recovery accelerated in full compliment of my physio. Her easy, relaxed nature, sense of humour and patience – fully tested by me – are second to none. I now see Meriel because I want to, not have to, and I would recommend her to anyone.” L in Edinburgh

Finding a personable experienced professional with the ability to utilise and adapt their extensive knowledge of massage techniques is a rare thing these days, but I have found one… Meriel.

Whether it be assisting in the recovery following neck surgery, removing the knots and tension from the long office hours and international travel, simply stretching the muscles to aid in their recovery or allowing me to wind-down, Meriel has the answer.

So, with the greatest of respect stop reading this, pick up the phone and book an appointment. I promise you, you wont be disappointed (and no, I’m not on commission!). S in Bridge of Allan

"I came to Meriel to help me with my Pilates. I had tension in some areas which was getting in the way of my Pilates. Meriel is a highly intelligent and caring person and a true gift to each of her clients. She listens exceptionally well and then uses all her massage skill and intuition to deliver a highly focused and effective treatment that works." S in Edinburgh

Pregnancy Massage

“I have found the massages I have received from Meriel whilst pregnant have greatly helped alleviate many of my physical niggles as well as improve my mood and my anxiety. Meriel is always warm and concerned about your well being and I always look forward to the 'time out' these massages have offered me in what has been, at times, a stressful pregnancy.” H in Edinburgh

“I visited Meriel for pregnancy massage in the last few months of my pregnancy and found the sessions fantastic. Knowing that most people have aches and pains during pregnancy I was amazed at what Meriel was able to achieve. I had increased mobility and flexibility after having the massages. The tension in my lower back and hips was becoming very painful but the massage helped and was also wonderfully relaxing for me.”

"At 34 weeks pregnant and my baby lying breech, I went for a massage with Meriel to soothe all those late pregnancy aches and pains. She did the most wonderful job of getting rid of all those knots and niggles, enabling me to completely relax. Not only that, but she even managed to encourage the wee babe to turn all the way around, which was a huge weight off my mind. I am already booked in for a return visit, this time in the hope of inducing it! I plan to continue going afterwards too as the hour away in a tranquil space is such a rarity & one that I cherish." E in Edinburgh

“I came to Meriel for pregnancy massage in the latter stages of my pregnancy. It was absolutely wonderful - I was so relaxed I drifted off into a much needed sleep and by the end of the session my sore, swollen feet looked normal again. It was really therapeutic and I have since recommended Meriel to all my pregnant friends!” M in Edinburgh

“I cannot recommend Meriel and the antenatal treatments I have had thus far more highly – the pregnancy massage is perfect for focussing on specific areas of tension and soreness, and reflexology is a lovely treat for relaxing and unwinding after a long day on your feet. Meriel is very skilled at putting you at ease from the outset and one couldn’t ask for a more warm and friendly therapist to conduct the treatments. The sessions are good value for money, Meriel is a pleasure to visit, and I always leave feeling more relaxed and glad I took the time to spoil myself.” L in Edinbrugh

"I saw Meriel through-out my pregnancy and had regular massages and reflexology. They helped me relax, sleep better and feel more energised. FELICITY BRADLEY

Remedial & Sports Massage

"What a lovely person Felicity is and what a great place to have a relaxing treatment. I’ve had massage and holistic treatments in the past but have always felt that I was on a conveyor belt when I visited other therapists. Felicity makes me feel very relaxed, at ease and very unrushed. And when I leave the treatment room I feel as if I am walking on air. I travel a long way for Felicity's sport's massage but it is well worth it...Thank you Felicty." - L in Fife

"While training for a half-marathon I’d managed to aggravate my achilles tendons. During that time I had regular sports massage with Felicity who worked wonders at loosening off my tight calf muscles and helped undo some of the damage. I felt that Felicity quickly got to grips with what was wrong and I really felt the benefit of each session. If you’re looking for a superb massage, I can’t recommend her highly enough." - A.Jones, Edinburgh

"I hadn't been sleeping very well and knew my back, neck and shoulder muscles were tense from hours in front of a computer. I saw Felicity for deep tissue massage and have been sleeping soundly even since! She has great technique and really understands where problematic muscles are hiding. I am looking forward to my next body overhaul. " -T.Campbell, Edinburgh

“I found Felicity to be friendly, helpful and very professional when I visited her for a neck injury. I had never had a sports massage before so was not sure what to expect, it certainly is not relaxing but I really felt like the tension in my muscles had been properly loosened by the session. The deep tissue massage helped give me relief from the pain I had in my neck but also helped relieve stress that had been building up in my shoulder and back area. Felicity is great at explaining how the different muscles affect each other and also sending you away with exercises to do at home to manage the condition on an on-going basis. I would highly recommend Felicity.” - J.Shiels, Edinburgh

"After an ankle operation I noticed scar tissue was limiting my range of movement. As a mountain biker I was also finding it difficult to train for long periods with my calves tightening up causing pain in my bad ankle. I saw Felicity for regular sports massage, she was able to reduce scar tissue, loosen off my calves and give me advice on stretches to help prevent tension building again - I was back to my usual training intensity within a few weeks! I will definitely continue to see her for regular maintenance massage!" - P.S, Edinburgh

"A keen dancer, I suffered a lower back sprain a year ago causing alot of pain and greatly reducing my mobility. I was amazed at the difference just one appointment with Felicity made to release some of the tension and help me on my way to recovery. Her knowledge and practice of remedial and sports injury massage gave me assurance that my recovery plan suited my needs and my body." -S.M, Edinburgh

"I started massage treatment with Felicity when I was having knee problems from cycling. She instantly put me at ease and helped me relax. Being from a sporting background herself, she is extremely knowledgable about specific sports injuries. As well as massage, she took a lot of time to work with me on specific exercises, pilates and stretches, which really helped with my injury. She is very thorough and encouraging, a real help getting me through a difficult period." - E.Halcrow, Edinburgh

DORIS WYLIE

Reflexology

"I really look forward to my reflexology appointment every month, it is the most relaxing thing I take time to do for me. Doris has helped fix a long standing neck problem I had as a result of an accident."
Susan Thomson, Edinburgh

"I have used Doris’ service for the past 3 years and enjoy every session. Reflexology is one of the best treatments I have had. It is relaxing and invigorating at the same time. It also helps me listen to and be aware of my body’s demands and reactions to everyday ‘wear and tear’. Doris is also a wonderful person to speak to and a very wise confident. Treatments with Doris are always moments I look forward to."
Stephanie Robin, Tranent

“I have been having monthly reflexology sessions with Doris for almost 7 years now. The treatment, in my opinion, has helped me to relax and been a positive influence on my wellbeing during this time. I have been suffering from stress recently and Doris has been really supportive to me during this difficult time. She is a really good listener and has become a really good friend also.” Elaine Cullen, West Lothian

"I’d have no hesitation in recommending Doris and reflexology. Doris always makes me feel at ease and there’s nothing more relaxing than taking time out in a busy day. Apart from that, I’ve had sinus problems and reflexology eases this greatly. And soothes away the aches and pains I sometimes get in my back and shoulders. If I could, I’d book a session every other day!" Ann Reveley, Fife

“I keep returning because the results last longer than in other spas / centres. The pressure is comfortable and effective. I have exceptionally tickly sides and feet, but don't even feel the need to flinch during the foot reflexology and Indian head massage.”

Jane G, Edinburgh

“I was looking for something to help me relax and decided to try reflexology. It's really worked for me. During the treatment I find myself drifting off and afterwards I feel very chilled and sleep much better too.”

Karen F, Edinburgh

“I’ve been having reflexology with Doris for many years now and feel that it works in a more preventative manner than cure.  However on my last visit I mentioned that my sinuses were very blocked and during the treatment just before Doris asked “how does that feel?” I felt a burst of moisture at the bridge of my nose and suddenly I could breathe again!  I was amazed and delighted.”

Elaine C, Bathgate

“I had never tried reflexology before as I thought a massage would give more effective and direct relief and relaxation… how wrong I was. I tried Doris as a one off and have never looked back. I have not had a massage since, believing that this is not only more effective in treating all kinds of symptoms but holistically more relaxing and stimulating.  Doris is very skilled and makes you totally relax from the start, I have and will continue to recommend Doris to all my friends and family.”

Jennifer D, Edinburgh

‘I actively look forward to my reflexology sessions with Doris. The treatments in themselves are very relaxing and afterwards I feel more energetic. I also have problems with my sinuses and the reflexology helps alleviate this.’

Ann R, Fife

“Reflexology helped me detect the source of my back pain (shoulder) and sort it out (new desk chair, different mouse etc).  It helps release tension from my shoulders and back and takes strain off my sciatic nerve and I don’t get such sore backache that I can hardly walk anymore. Reflexology points to problems in my body sometimes even before I realise them, which helps me avoiding pain before it happens.”

B Roster, Edinburgh

"After my regular reflexology session with Doris my feet feel like they are walking on air"
 Heather :), Midlothian

“I’ve been seeing Doris every month for around 6 years now.  I originally decided to try Reflexology to help with my migraines, and after a few sessions these disappeared!  I decided to continue with regular sessions, as I find these very relaxing.  More recently I have been diagnosed with an auto-immune disorder, and I believe that reflexology complements the conventional treatment I receive.  Doris is also a very good listener, and can help me to work through any problems in my life with some gentle suggestions to try and help me resolve.  Sometime the opportunity to voice problems and solutions with someone completely independent is therapy in itself!”

Lynne P, East Lothian

“I suffered from really bad PMT and severe period pains. I had tried everything but nothing worked. I came across Doris' practice and have never looked back. A regular series of reflexology sessions have left me, one year later, without any monthly agony which has really changed my life! I'm very glad to have found reflexology and Doris.”

B, Edinburgh

“In one session Doris has been able to unblock some blockages I had for a long time, and after the session I have been able to sleep well after almost four months!”

Elisa F, Italy

“Just to let you know yours was the most relaxing kind of treatment I have ever had!   You were fantastic, many thanks again.”

RB, Edinburgh

“Immediately after the session I felt slightly better; however the next day when I woke up the (back) strain was all but gone! A slight niggle remained for few days but then disappeared.”

SA, Edinburgh

Maternity Reflexology:

“I was 8 days overdue during my second pregnancy & was scheduled for an induction on due date + 14.  I was willing to try anything to avoid induction & my midwife asked me if I would consider any alternative therapies.  I had been for reflexology postnatally once in the past & found it very relaxing.  I had an appointment on a Wednesday evening at 7pm & my son was born the next night at 10pm.  Initially during the session the points on my feet weren't at all 'sensitive', but as the treatment progressed the pressure points became more & more sensitive.  Also, almost instantly when the treatment began my bump became crampy & the baby became very active.  Through the night after the treatment I started to have some mild contractions & by the morning the contractions were regular.  I would recommend reflexology to any woman who is overdue & wants to avoid being induced.  I am confident that the reflexology treatment from Doris initiated my labour.”

Becky S, Edinburgh

Indian Head Massage:

“The Indian Head Massage takes all my stresses away in a gentle grounding way. I no longer suffer from headaches and find the massage helps my neck and shoulder tension considerably. The treatment is so good I have recommended it to family, friends and working colleagues. As a busy working mum of two, I find it invaluable. Its restorative “me” time that I can’t do without!”

Jackie I, Edinburgh

“For me, Indian head massage brings relaxation. I work at a PC and have a pretty hectic life. I tend to get tight neck and shoulder muscles.

The massage helps me to relax and de-stress and brings feelings of calmness and balance.”

Susanne L, Edinburgh

SARAH URQUHART-TAYLOR

Swedish Massage/Remedial & Sports Massage:

“Thanks for the massage – a real treat! I was stiff and tired after a combination of rock-climbing, gardening and a stressful project at work, but as usual your healing hands melted away all the knots and tension. You seem to have to knack of knowing what to work on without me even having to tell you! I’m looking forward to my next massage which will be very welcome.” TM in Edinburgh

"I enjoyed the massage I had from you and I felt that it was very effective in loosening tight muscles in my back and legs without giving pain or leaving me with pain or feeling washed out. The pressure was just right! I was surprised to learn that you have only been working as a therapist for a relatively short time - you have a great touch and good technique which can only get better as your experience increases." L from Edinburgh

“I have a long standing rugby induced neck injury. This plays up from time to time, aggravated by long hours behind the computer. The resulting neck and shoulder muscle spasm often triggers migraine too. I have found Sarah's massage therapy extremely helpful both in treating and preventing symptoms. Sarah is friendly, yet very professional, making the massage session very comfortable and relaxing. I have no hesitation in highly recommending Sarah as a massage therapist.”  M from Edinburgh

"Sarah works in a very focused way and pays a lot of attention to her client's needs, always using appropriate pressure and movements. The muscles of my back immediately felt move relaxed after the massage and this gave me relief for several days afterwards."

"A fantastic massage and a very nice sequence. Sarah is able to work deeply but in a very soothing way"

I have now been able to join a yoga class and am starting to get active again. Many thanks." JO in Edinburgh

"I have had 2 sessions with Ali which have been extremely beneficial to my sore neck.  Ali is both professional and friendly and is happy to give extra information like reading material or exercises to do at home to help the recovery along.  I am looking forward to my third session as I always feel relaxed and my back a lot looser after an hour with Ali."
